Lets talk Cameras, what I use and why…

I have been a professional photographer for several years, encountering various cameras and brands along the way, including the nostalgic experience of using film cameras. Not the video-making kind, but the classic 35mm SLR with its charm. While using the Sony A7iii from 2019 into early 2020 for weddings yielded pleasing results, I sensed a certain clinical quality in my work. In November 2019, I reignited my love for Fuji Film cameras by acquiring the X100F, equipped with a fixed 23mm f/2 lens. This compact camera, fondly termed my “party cam,” has become my constant companion, ready for any moment worth capturing. Photography isn't just a profession; it's my passion, prompting me to always have a camera at hand. The beauty of the X100F lies in its simplicity - no need to swap lenses, just point, shoot, and witness moments translate effortlessly onto my phone with remarkable quality. Moreover, this camera became a precious tool in capturing final memories with my mother, allowing me to preserve her essence through poignant photographs before her health declined further.

At the beginning of 2024, my anticipation for Fujifilm's possible release of the X-Pro 4 was met with a blend of excitement and curiosity. The brand's enigmatic pre-conference monochrome video stirred speculation, only to reveal the launch of the X100VI instead of the awaited model. Faced with the realization that my trusted Fujifilm X-Pro 3 cameras were showing signs of aging, a decision loomed before me. Upon experimenting with the new X-T5, I was pleasantly surprised by the remarkable outcomes it delivered. Despite my initial reservations about its design departure from the X-Pro series, the camera's sensor performance was truly exceptional. Its white balance accuracy, swift autofocus capabilities, and seamless compatibility with the XF18mm and XF33mm lenses were striking. While I had enjoyed using the GFX system for photography, I found its speed and bulkiness somewhat limiting for my style as a documentary wedding photographer, requiring a more discreet and agile approach.

In January 2023, I made a significant decision to expand my gear collection by incorporating another Fujfilm camera system. I took the leap and rented the GFX50SII paired with a 63mm F/2.8 lens for a couple of pre-wedding sessions. The outcomes astounded me, sparking a desire to eventually make a purchase. The sensor's remarkable light interpretation and expansive dynamic range truly enhance the depth of field, particularly in couple portraits. Opting for the GFX50R—a camera with a rangefinder layout akin to the x-pro3—has remarkably elevated the quality of my work this year. While the GFX may operate a tad slower in terms of focus, this deliberate pace has heightened my awareness of composition, light play, and the meticulous elimination of any unwanted gaps within the frame.

I recently completed my final full wedding shoot in the second week of March 2020 Subsequently, my Sony cameras remained untouched, gathering dust, as I gravitated towards relying on my dependable X100F. The intimate connection I felt with my photography while using this compact yet proficient camera was remarkable. It sparked a thought process within me. I decided to reach out to Fuji Film to explore their latest camera offerings. After consulting with them, I opted to rent an X-Pro3 along with my go-to wedding lenses - a 23mm F/1.4 (35mm equivalent) and a 56mm F/1.2 (85mm equivalent). The moment I cradled the X-Pro3, its robust, lightweight, and ergonomic design impressed me. Embracing the viewfinder over the screen reignited a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of my youth, harkening back to the joy of framing the perfect shot with my beloved Nikon FM2.

For the remaining dates that I had booked in for 2020 and moving forward into 2021, I decided to utilise two Fuji Film X-pro3 cameras. Rest assured, I understand the importance of being prepared, so I will always carry an additional emergency camera body for any unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, my trusty X100F continues to hold a special place in my gear setup as it symbolizes the beginning of my transition to Fujifilm cameras.
